In response to questions regarding the viability of running the 40th Annual SAPICS Conference in June 2018 due to the current water crisis in Cape Town, the management of Century City Conference Centre and the Century City Hotel have confirmed that they intend to be fully self-sufficient in respect of water within the next few months and therefore hope not be impacted by the water crisis and the possibility of day zero.  They have confirmed that all toilets are already plumbed separately to all other water using recycled water and they are currently in the final phase of implementing an alternative water supply for showering.  Guests will obviously be encouraged to be mindful and respectful of their water consumption but should not be inconvenienced while attending the SAPICS Annual Conference.  The management of Century City Conference Centre will continue to do all it can to ensure the responsible use of this precious resource.

An introduction to the SAPICS Conference 2018

For the benefit of parties who have not participated in a SAPICS Conference over the past 40 years, we outline some background information on the nature of the SAPICS Conference of 2018.


The event is known as the leading event in Africa for Supply Chain Professionals for good reason. SAPICS officials scour the globe searching for the most interesting and skilled presenters. Preference is given to relevant case studies and securing a speaker slot each year is increasingly competitive. Papers are submitted months before the event and careful selection is made by a totally impartial Speaker Selection Committee drawn from many sectors of industry.

Other programme inclusions

The Conference programme contains a selection of workshops, mainly on the Sunday afternoon of June 10, for which there is no surcharge. In addition, a variety of fascinating site visits are arranged at a nominal charge for Wednesday June 13. Pre-booking of both workshops and site visits is required, as there is limited space available. In summary, the programme provides 3 days of outstanding presentations, educational workshops, relevant site visits, networking and social activities, designed to enhance delegates’ professional knowledge, experience and standing.

The Venue

The recently opened Century City Conference Centre is an immaculate modern and upmarket venue with comfortable hotels within walking distance. It has proven attractive to the dedicated conference-goer, free from the unwelcome distractions of golf courses and slot machines. The design of the venue is conducive to constructive networking over the period of 3 days.

The Exhibition

The central ground floor area is the scene of a medium-sized exhibition with service providers of many kinds exhibiting. Given that access to the venue as a whole is restricted to registered delegates, it allows for a lengthier and more in-depth exchange between exhibitor and delegate to mutual benefit.

Gala Dinner and Banqueting

Although included for many years in the past, the capacity of the venue does not allow us to schedule a gala dinner. Despite this and unlike many other conferences, delegates are well served with generous and quality cuisine, beverages and entertainment. Unlike many other conferences, we are committed to providing enjoyable and quality social events after the official business of the day concludes.
